Telling the stories of our kaumātua and elders takes time, care, and resources, from travel and accommodation to hours of filming, editing, and writing. As a small team, our focus is on making Landlines a gift for families and for New Zealand.

By donating, you’re helping us preserve these voices and memories for generations to come. Every contribution goes directly into creating a story, and together we can make a real difference. We apply for community funding where we can, to apply for community funding any letters of support help us toward a successful grant application. If you’d like to help that way, we would appreciate letters of support from our community.

 FAQs

  • Each Landlines story costs around $3,663 + GST to produce. It might sound like an oddly specific number, but every dollar goes directly into making the story happen.

    This includes:

    • Travel & accommodation – getting to the communities where the stories live.

    • Photography & videography (4–6 hours) – capturing the people and places with care.

    • Editing, writing & transcribing – the many hours behind the scenes to shape each story into something meaningful.

    At the end, every family receives a beautiful package of video, photo, and words to treasure, and the story is shared with the wider community of Aotearoa.

    Your donation goes straight into making sure these voices are preserved and celebrated.

  • Yes! If you’d like to fully fund a story (around $3,663 + GST), we’ll work with you to dedicate it in your name, your organisation’s name, or in honour of someone you’d like remembered.

  • We work closely with communities and accept nominations from whānau, friends, and organisations. Our priority is to capture voices that may otherwise go unheard, with respect for the wishes of each family.

  • Unless they sponsor their own elderly’s story, no, Landlines stories are gifted to the families. They receive a full package of photo, video, and words at no cost. Your donation makes that possible.
